Speakers

Laura is a senior physiotherapist who qualified in Ireland before moving to Auckland in 2018. She has worked across the public and private sectors in New Zealand and for the past six years, has worked predominantly with clients following traumatic brain injury. Her work under the ACC concussion contract sparked a particular interest in understanding more about visual dysfunction following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), including its impact on recovery and challenges accessing appropriate assessment and treatment. This led her to undertake this research as part of her Master of Health Sciences (Rehabilitation) at the University of Otago.

Calista works as an Advanced Physiotherapist for Falls in the Community Older Adult, Rehabilitation and Allied Health Services (ORA) at Health NZ – Te Whatu Ora, Capital & Coast District. In her clinical caseload, she sees a mixture of people with multi-factorial falls, progressive neurological conditions, and various rehabilitation needs, many of whom are older adults. Her advanced physiotherapy work is focused around service development to improve outcomes for people who are falling in the community. Calista graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Otago in 2016 and with a Master of Health Sciences endorsed in Rehabilitation in 2024. Her Master’s thesis topic was New Zealand physiotherapists' perspectives on patient engagement with older adults: An interpretive description approach.
